Ideal Expedition Boat

Professionally welded steel sailboat for sale, Roberts design, pilothouse

The Roberts 434D is a proven blue water steel sailboat and this cutter-rigged example has been built to the highest standard. Begun as the dream boat of a retired weldor and fabricator for nuclear power plants, this boat is ready for finishing, ideal for nothern latitude expeditions with pilothouse and only the highest construction. Read below for details.

Quality Design

This steel sailboat has been built to the highest standard.  She is just shy of 48 feet in length with 3 inches added to each station to increase her overall length and accommodation.  She has never been in the water and has installed, a brand-new legendary Perkins 4-236 (90 HP) with new gearbox and stainless alloy prop shaft, integral baffled fuel tank (est. 300 US gal. +), tempered safety glass in the pilot house, brand new Sidepower SE170 bow thruster, Maxwell 3500 windlass, new black/gray and fresh water tanks (multiple) and much more.

Quality Welding

This steel sailboat was built by an accomplished, experienced fabricator as evidenced by the incredible weld quality, atypical formed bilges resulting in a rounded chine, and the liberal use of stainless steel above the water line in areas subject to paint dings (hatches, cap rail, winch bases, mast step, bollards, and cleats etc.).  Estimate by a professional fabrication yard for yard time for level of current completion exceeds 6,000 hours.  She was sand blasted to white metal and coated to Devoe specifications both inside and out resulting in virtually no surface rust in almost 20 years.  Interior was then two-part spray foamed to the water line and then coated with two applications of intumescent (fireproofing) paint.
